A poem that peels back an edge of a curtain to glimpse a little of today’s Australia and perhaps some of a writers soul.

Hang loose
An empty mind
Clothes flapping on a line
The summer sun

Go
A human wins a game
A computer wins a match
Software design AI Google

Crows
White tailed cockatoos
Ocean without swell
Birds in a water bath

Asylum
Church tries sanctuary
Government tries autocracy
Children self harm

Turnbull
Promises unfulfilled
Budget unreconciled
Election date withheld

Aborigine
Die younger
Jailed more often
Constitutionally postponed

Depression
Prevention is suicide
Volunteering is excuse
Forget mefloquine compensation

Glorious ‘ome
Young dream on
‘omeless sleep rough
Rent steels from our future

Terror-stricken
Attack is threatened
Internet is spied on
Freedom is forgotten

Beauty
Blue of the sky
Red of the dirt
Eyes of my loved one
